Eat that 21st Century!

I don't know why, but there is something undeniably gratifying about getting rid of certain creature comforts that have somehow, unnecessarily, made it into our societies hierarchy of needs. Basically what I am saying is that because I now live alone and don't have 2 other people helping me pay the bills, I got rid of the internet at my house. I know I know, how am I going to watch all those terrible TV shows that I fill my free time with or surf the internet for juicy celebrity gossip or check my facebook every 6 minuets? Well the answer is I'm not! Take that! By cancelling my internet I have saved myself a hefty chunk of change and turned the internet into a special treat that I have to venture out and find rather then have at my fingertips. Right now I'm at my favorite Eugene coffee spot Vero looking at my favorite websites, checking in on my favorite bloggers and NOT just sitting around my house in my underwear with all the windows closed and the shades drawn getting lost in the vortex that Al Gore created so long ago. By the time this americano is over, I'll be bored and head back to my apartment to maybe clean or read or make some art. Nice!

Andy Bird

Andrew Bird has that fantastic effortless quality to his music. When he is singing, whistling and/or playing violin, he appears to just be his natural state. I love his voice and the way he composes a song and his lyrics which are so different then any other songwriters. That's partly why I am so pumped for his new Hands of Glory, the companion album to Break It Yourself. This little teaser video gives us a taste of the folksy, intimate style this album will have and the photo below it gives us a taste of how great Andrew Bird really is.

Nails and Ales

I don't ever paint my nails. Mostly because you have to sit and wait for it to dry and because my nails are big in comparison to my fingers and it just ends up looking really strange (I did used to paint just the ring finger on my left hand pink in middle school but that's only because I was a total weirdo). But when I came across the tumblr Nails and Ales I couldn't resist.

I have some MAD respect for this girl. She is serious about her nails and her ales and that is something I can 100% get behind.

I mean come on!

Maya Rudolph has a Prince cover band.

 And it's called Princess.

This is the most marvelous thing the internet has shown me in maybe my life.

Feist is my spirit animal

Everyone go here right now and watch Feist in all her glory. Everything about this video is stunning and I would love to be able to sit down with her and her band before a show and listen to them brainstorm how to create the perfect atmospheres they perform in. It's stunning and inspiring and just gorgeous in every way.

Revelation Blues

Paula Greif Ceramics

I'm always looking for new, up and coming potters who change the way I think about and look at pots and frankly, there is no lack of them. I feel like nearly every day I find a new name and a new form that I would have never thought of before but sends me straight to my studio sketchbook to lay out a new design of my own for a glaze or a pattern or a form. I found Paula Greif thanks to the ceramic lovers at Design Sponge. Her work is fantastic and totally her own. I love how organic all her shapes are and how her glazes and decoration totally compliment that fluidity and evidence of the hand.
You can get lost in pages of images of her work here.
She also talks about her art practice a bit in this article about her home and describes how she set out on a mission to make everything in her kitchen. I'm so down with that idea I think I'll be heading into the studio this week to start making a set of nesting mixing bowls.

I can't get over these pedestal bowls.
The almost child-like tilt and gesture of these jugs is fantastic.

Summer's a bummer when you love your jean jacket

I try to organize all the photos I am constantly taking off the internet into folders. I have about 10 folders including ones for band photos, pictures of dogs doing human things, and beautiful home interiors.
Anyways, I was going through my "fashions" folder today just for funs and I realized 99% of the pictures are of girls bundled up in big jackets and scarves with wool socks and breath taking boots. Needless to say looking at all these great fall looks got me jonesin to layer up and brave the elements. Bring on the next season please!

Isabelle Bertonlini

Today Miss Moss (pretty much my favorite blog on the internet) posted about French photographer Isabelle Bertonlini's beautiful photos of food. A little fact about me is that I fuckin LOVE pictures of food, so it's not surprising that I spent a solid hour going through her Flickr and drooling not only over the gorgeous food photos but her entire flickr itself.

Above are a few of my favorite photos. Don't you wish you had her magnificent collection of plates?

David Byrne & St. Vincent- "Who"

I've watched this video about 5 times since it came out yesterday. I love the song, I love the musicians but I think the reason I can't get enough is David Byrne's dance moves. They are glorious.
